High Sierra Music Festival

Moore and More kicked off their mini-tour in Bear Valley, California at the
High Sierra Music Festival. Stanton Moore, Charlie and Greyboy All-Stars
saxophonist Karl Denson, filling in for Skerik who will be the saxophonist
on the rest of the tour, all joined legendary New Orleans keyboardist Henry
Butler (who was also joined by blues guitarist, Danny Caron) during most of his set before playing their own. The songs performed
ranged from the blues classic, "Goin' Down Slow" to more traditional New
Orleans staples.
After a short break, Stanton, Charlie and Karl hit the stage as Moore and
More and played a powerpacked short set (the boys were having so much fun
playing with Henry Butler that Henry's set ran long, so the Moore and More
set only turned out to be about 50 minutes). The band opened with a bunch of
tunes from Stanton' album, "All Kooked Out!" starting with the John Patton
tune "Boogaloo Boogie" and continued on with a classic Thelonious Monk tune,
"Green Chimneys". For "Tchfunkta", Stanton invited out Artis the Spoonman,
who plays the spoons and other innovative percussive instruments. Next came
"Common Ground" which had a great scatting session from Charlie during his
solo. For "Blues for Ben" Henry Butler came back out to add his incredible
keyboard playing to the mix. For the final tune, the band played an upbeat funk
tune recently written by
Karl Denson called "8:30 Pick-up" which sounded more like a Greyboy All
Stars tune than anything else. A short and sweet set.
