Marie Daulne met Michael Franti when he was working with his cross-cultural band Spearhead. Since the basis of Zap Mama's music focuses on bridging the gap between the music of Zaire and Belgium, she invited Franti to perform on the track entitled "Poetry Man" on this record, and Franti, who helped Daulne produce and mix "Poetry Man", invited Charlie to play harmonica on the track.
