This
was the first release by James
T. Kirk, a side project of Charlie's
that was forced by Paramount Pictures to
change their name due to the use of Captain
James T. Kirk's name, a character from
Star Trek. Keepng the initials of their
heroes whose music they were performing,
they came up with T.J. Kirk.
(Charlie later jokes that the band is named
after the police television show, T.J.
Hooker, whose main character was also played
by William Shatner.) T.J. Kirk includes
Bay Area guitarists Will
Bernard, John
Schott, and Charlie's longtime
drummer Scott
Amendola. They intertwine
the music of Thelonious Monk, James
Brown and Rahsaan Roland
Kirk. Since the band includes
two other phenomenal guitar players, Hunter
primarily sticks to bass and rhythm parts,
but also contributes a decent number of
guitar solos.
